Malnutrition is often thought of as not getting enough to eat. In reality, malnutrition is really when a condition is present that is caused by one of the following issues:
- Excess nutrients – more nutrients than a body needs.
- Deficit nutrients – fewer nutrients than a body needs.
- Nutrient imbalances.
Weight (too much or too little) is not in of itself considered a condition of malnutrition. Malnutrition is more aligned with what nutrients your body is taking in and how those nutrients affect your health.
