September 21 (yup today) is the United Nations International Day for Peace. That said, I think it would be nice for us all to find something peaceful to do today – or maybe even for the rest of the year!
POP QUIZ: Before we launch into peace, can you guess what the images is above? Cedar drew it – but copied it from one of his favorite organic food products. Guess away and I’ll post the answer at the bottom of this post.
Start REALLY local: There’s an old Ashanti proverb, “The ruin of a nation begins in the homes of its people.” It’s not a far fetched idea; practice peace at home before you go marching around a city with banners yelling about peace. Get outside for a peaceful nature walk, plant a tree, play a board game or just explore. Do something as a peaceful family.
Say please and thank you: We’re big on that around here, and it may seem silly, but as you go through your day notice how many people do not use little courtesy phrases anymore. It’s lame. Being nice in general and keeping things chill, does, in my opinion include saying stuff like please and thank you. People appreciate it.
Be green peaceful: Don’t always correct other peoples’ less than green habits. Beyond being annoying, it’s not helping the cause. Also, no one is perfect. Not you. Not me. Learn to be at peace with where your friends and family are on the green path.
Color: Did you know that coloring has been shown to reduce stress and keep people calmer and even healthier? Crayons not war right!? The kids can color some free peace coloring pages and anyone, even adults, will chill out while coloring in a recycled coloring book.
POP QUIZ ANSWER: Cedar’s drawing is from a box of… Annie’s Homegrown Organic Peace Pasta with Parmesan.
He loves this stuff, and since it’s all about peace today, it seemed fitting. Have a peaceful day!
