BPA-free reusable water bottle buying guide

I haven’t updated my BPA-free reusable water bottle shopping guide for about three years, so I’d say it’s about time. Luckily, there’s a slew of new bottles on the market, so shopping for the perfect reusable water bottle has never been easier.

Reusable Water Bottles are an Eco-family Must:

No matter which bottle you choose, it’s important you pick one up for each member of your family. In recent years Americans have started buying MORE not fewer disposable water bottles which is practically a crime considering how easy reusable water bottles are to use.

About the Guide

In the past, I’ve divided my reusable water bottle guides into adult vs. kid bottles. This year, I’ve divided my guide by type of bottle material which includes stainless steel, BPA-free plastic and glass. I’ve done this list differently this year because at my house bottle use often overlaps, with kids using larger bottles and adults grabbing smaller bottles at times and so on.

I will also be adding a reusable water bottle guide specifically for babies and toddlers, because they do need smaller sized bottles.

Need to know: Just to be clear, if a bottle is listed in my guide, it means that to the best of my knowledge and research abilities, it’s a BPA-free product. However, as I always say, before you buy any new product, including a water bottle, you should do your own research and read reviews so that you get the best bottle to suit your needs.

The Reusable Water Bottle Guide

We’ll kick this year’s water bottle guide off with my top water bottle pick and then move on to the various bottle materials. If you could care less about my top water bottle pick (it’s fine, I won’t hold it against you) then you can skip directly to the different guide sections now. All in all there are 100+ safe reusable beverage bottles featured within the guide, so you’ve got zero excuses not to find a bottle you love and use it.

My Top Reusable Water Bottle Pick

Klean Kanteen is my favorite reusable water bottle company. Klean Kanteen bottles are made with 18/8, food-grade stainless steel and BPA-free polypropylene #5 (for caps). Their products are responsibly made and the company is a member of 1% for the Planet.

We own many Klean Kanteens. They hold up great, are affordable, keep fluids cold or hot as needed and stand up to my kid accidentally hurling them at the ground at least once a day. Klean Kanteen offers lots of other perks too, such as large-mouth openings if you like along with safe rounded corners and threads that make the bottles easy to clean. Stainless cap and lid options are available in all bottle styles.

Klean Kanteen offers an insane amount of choices when it comes to bottles, including sizes ranging from tiny baby bottles all the way up to big ol’ 64 ounces. Below are some good options for kids and adults:

Best reusable water bottles - Klean Kanteen Classic

Klean Kanteen Classic – the classic is the most basic Kanteen. Classic is available in all kinds of colors and with all sorts of lids. We own a few of these.

Best reusable water bottles - Klean Kanteen Reflect

The Reflect Kanteen – crafted using just sustainably harvested bamboo, food-grade silicone and stainless steel. Zero paint. Zero plastic. Ultimate beauty.

Best reusable water bottles - Klean Kanteen Wide

Klean Kanteen Wide Mouth – perfect for trekking, the 2.125″ wide-mouth opening and threads are compatible with most backcountry water filters and UV sterilization devices.

Klean Kanteen is my favorite, but it’s not the only water bottle player in town. Lots more great choices in the links below.

I’m so behind. How have I not heard of Life Factory? I’m loving the idea of glass protected by silicone. Anyone had practice trying (not) to break one?

By the way, I love your new design on top.

How have you not heard of LifeFactory! They’ve been around a while – but if you usually go with stainless that could be why. They only make glass. I did a full review of my LifeFactory bottle here. They’re WAY less breakable than you might think. I’ve thrown mine down while jogging, hiking and just because it slips and not even a crack. The silicone is amazing. The glass is thick too. I can’t speak to all the other glass bottles, but LifeFactory works, even when Cedar carries it around.
