Felt food pretty much rocks. It’s safe for little ones, easy to handle and play with and a lot of felt is eco-friendly to boot. Felt food makes a great addition to your child’s play kitchen. Below are some great places to pick up eco-friendly felt food.
Twinkle Kids handcrafts all products from the finest 100% wool felt and all the felt is Oko-Tex standard 100% certified. This is a majorly delightful shop in the world of felt, offering the most amazing felt cake sets you’ve ever seen – the Garden Cake and Cherry Blossom Baby Cake. PLUS for kids who tire of the same old cake decor, Twinkle Kids offers plenty of icing sets too.
Royal Rugrats makes the cutest felt food! While the shop offers lots of food choices it’s heavy on the veggies! All food made with eco-felt. I love the Farmers Market Fresh Vegetable Set and the sweet Watermelon Fruit Basket.
It’s the Small Things carries tons of adorable felt food items made with eco-friendly felt. Notable is the Pretend play food Smiley face sandwich set and the Smiley sunrise pink breakfast felt pretend food – which comes in blue or brown shades too. I really like the pink though.
Eco-friendly felt for making your own felt food:
Not all felt is eco-friendly. Some felt is just made of basic synthetic materials. If you’re going to make your own eco-crafty felt food look for…
- Organic wool felt first. Felt made with wool and zero pesticides. La Lana Wool has some lovely organic wool felt, dyed with plant-based dye. Syrendell has some organic wool available as well, and they can custom dye.
- Look for eco-fi felt which is made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles. Check around online for an, “eco-fi felt pack.” It can be hard to find, but I’ve seen packs often at Etsy.
- 100% wool craft felt. You can find wool felt at most craft stores – just read the label. Or look online. In the US visit A Child’s Dream for naturally dyed felt.
- If you’re very crafty you could try your hand at making felt with wool.
To find patterns simply browse Etsy, looking for, “Felt food patterns,” you’ll find loads. Also see this complete breakdown of Wool/Rayon Felt vs. Eco-Fi Polyester Felt for more info.
